Welcome to the online course 2D Art for Game Developers!
During this course, you’ll learn the basic workflow of digital painting for games, from ideating and sketching to the final game-ready graphics You will create game characters, environments, and various items. Along the way, you’ll receive valuable tips on how to enhance your art and find resources to develop your creative process.
The course has four parts:
1. Ideation and sketching
2. Character art
3. Environment art
4. Final Assignment
In Ideation and Sketching, you’ll learn about digital painting and its tools, as well as the workflow of digital painting, design principles, and how to ideate game art.
In Character Art, you’ll learn how to make interesting and engaging game characters.
In Environment Art, we focus on the elements that the game’s environment is made of: buildings, nature, and vegetation; stones and rocks; and different props and items in the scene.
In Final Assignment, you'll apply what you learned in the course, and create a game environment accompanied by a game character for a platformer game.
To support your journey of becoming a game artist, the course will also introduce you to game art theory and general art theory. Written instructions are supported by tutorial videos.
The course includes exercises which you should complete to fully understand the topic discussed. Some of the excercises art short 15 minutes tasks, while the more demanding will take a whole day to finish.
